TubeMate YouTube Downloader

TubeMate YouTube Downloader is an app for downloading YouTube videos directly to your mobile phone. It allows you to have your favorite videos on your device’s SD card to watch them whenever you want.

This app is really easy to use, you just have to look for any video in the search bar of the app and press the green arrow located on the bottom part of the screen

At that moment you can select the video quality you want to download. It normally has many different resolution options adapted to the different Android devices compatible with the application.

Applications from outside Google Play don't have to be harmful and if TubeMate is downloaded from one of the authorized sources (meaning actaully comes from the developers), it is safe for your phone and perfectly legal for you to use, at least in US.

Another perfect example is FrostWire. Aside from being a full featured BitTorrent Client, it is also a SoundCloud and YouTube downloader. The app is 100% legal - on phone and on desktop - FrostWire: Downloader, BitTorrent Client and Media Player. There are two FrostWire versions for Android - FrostWire Plus - with YouTube Downlaoding feature and FrostWire Basic, which you can download from Google Play, whithou the feature. They are identical otherwise, but just in order to not be taked out of the Google Play store, they were forced to have 2 versions, or drop YouTube all together.

It is NOT ILLEGAL to download from YouTube, it is against it's terms of use, therefore Google's terms of use and therefore apps that offer YouTube downloading feature are taken out of Google Play. Downloading from YouTube in US falls under time-shifting, where if you record something (=download something) from a medim that is widely available and free, you have the right to time-shift it's content for personal use.
